Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how I, Thomas Unise, collect, use, and protect information when you visit thomasunise.com or otherwise get in touch with me about consulting work. I built this site to be as lean as possible on data collection — I'm not running an ad business, and I don't want more information about you than I need to do good work and respond to your inquiry.

This policy is written in plain English for a small, independent consulting practice. It's provided for general information and isn't a substitute for legal advice. If you have questions about how a specific engagement handles data, that will be addressed in our separate written agreement.

Information I Collect

I collect information in a few limited ways:

Information you send me directly — your name, email address, phone number, company, and anything else you include when you email me, fill out a contact form, or otherwise reach out about a project.
Context sent with the contact form — when you submit the contact form, it includes the pages you viewed during that visit, the site that referred you, and any campaign tags in the link you arrived from. This is kept in your browser only for that visit and sent only if you submit the form.
Email and analytics data — if you email me, standard email metadata (address, timestamps, message content) is retained in my inbox. If this site uses analytics tools, they may collect aggregate, anonymized-where-possible data such as pages visited, referring site, device/browser type, and approximate location.
Basic site logs — like most websites, the hosting infrastructure behind thomasunise.com may automatically log technical details such as IP address, browser type, and request timestamps for security and troubleshooting purposes.

How I Use It

I use the information I collect to:

Respond to your inquiries and follow up on potential engagements.
Deliver the services covered by any signed agreement between us.
Understand how visitors use this site and improve its content and performance.
Maintain the security and proper functioning of the site.

I don't use the information you share with me to send unsolicited marketing, and I don't use it for any purpose beyond what's reasonably related to the reason you provided it.

Cookies & Analytics

This site may use a limited number of cookies or similar technologies for basic functionality and, where enabled, analytics — for example, to understand which pages get read and where visitors come from. These tools typically report aggregate trends rather than identifying you personally. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; doing so shouldn't affect your ability to read the site, though some functionality may be limited.

This site also keeps its own visit log without using cookies. For each page view it records the page, the referring site, any campaign tags, your approximate country, and the organization that owns the network you're browsing from (for example, a company or university network), which is looked up on my own server from a public database of network owners, so your IP address is not sent to anyone. I don't store your IP address: visits are grouped with a code that changes every day, so the log can't follow you from one day to the next. I use it to understand which organizations read the site. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, no visit is recorded. Visit records are deleted after 180 days.

I don't sell, rent, or trade your information — full stop. I may share information in narrow circumstances:

Service providers — tools I rely on to run this practice, such as email, hosting, scheduling, or analytics providers, may process information on my behalf, strictly to provide that service.
Legal requirements — if required by law, subpoena, or to protect my rights, safety, or the safety of others.
Business changes — in the unlikely event of a transfer of this practice's assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy or a comparable one.

Data Security

I take reasonable, industry-standard steps to protect information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or loss — including relying on reputable service providers with their own security practices. That said, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and I can't guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

I keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry, deliver a service, meet legal or accounting obligations, or maintain a reasonable business record — and no longer than that. You're welcome to ask me to delete information I hold about you at any time; see the Contact section below.

Your Rights

Depending on where you're located, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, or to object to certain processing. I'll honor reasonable requests to the extent required by applicable law. To exercise any of these rights, just reach out using the contact details below.

International Visitors

This site is operated from the United States. If you're visiting from outside the U.S., understand that any information you provide may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

Children's Privacy

This site and my services are intended for business professionals and are not directed at children. I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided information to me, please contact me and I'll delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in practice or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The "Last updated" date below will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be reflected here; I encourage you to review this page periodically.
