Enterprise AI for a trillion-dollar metro that runs on paperwork

People outside Los Angeles think of it as a media town. The economy is far broader than that. The Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metro produced $1,075.1 billion in real GDP in 2023, and it carries some of the heaviest operational workloads in the country: the nation's busiest port, managed care for Medicaid and Medicare members, a major insurance base, and aerospace manufacturing from Hawthorne to Palmdale.

That profile is exactly where production AI pays off. I'm an independent enterprise AI consultant based in Minnesota, with 20 years across sales, paid acquisition, marketing technology, CRO and analytics and more than $50M in managed ad spend. I design, build and optimize agentic AI workflows, RAG and knowledge systems, and private AI infrastructure for regulated industries. Los Angeles has a serious technical research base that often gets overlooked next to the Bay Area. Caltech in Pasadena operates NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which has designed and built every NASA Mars rover and runs NASA's Deep Space Network, and UCLA and USC are both major research universities in the city. The region's aerospace and space manufacturing cluster, from Hawthorne to the Antelope Valley, adds a deep pool of engineers used to working under strict safety, quality and security controls.

That mix suits the kind of AI most LA enterprises need: less about novel models, more about disciplined systems that handle regulated data and hold up under audit. My job is to pick the right tools, build the workflow, and prove the result against a baseline.

Los Angeles engagements run remote-first from Minnesota, with on-site sessions where they earn the flight: a kickoff to map the workflow and lock the KPI, a workshop with the claims handlers, coordinators or clinicians who do the work today, and launch week.
